Our Mission

The Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament (MIST)™ is a fun, educational, interactive program of competitions and workshops geared towards bringing high school students together from around the nation to develop leadership, communication, and other creative skills, all while gaining a deeper understanding of Islam and Muslims.

The Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament (MIST)™ consists of annual Regional Tournaments that take place in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, DC,  Florida, Philadelphia, Richmond, Nashville, New Jersey, New York City, Northern California, Houston, Southern California, and Toronto.  The winners from each Regional Tournament qualify to complete at the annual National Tournament.  The tournaments last two-three days, ending with the Awards Ceremony on the final night.  The Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament (MIST)™ currently features over 35 different competitions.

Our History

The Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament was first created in Houston, Texas in 2001 by a young woman who felt that the Muslim youth in the community needed a place where they could promote peace and understanding, try to get rid of the cliques that are often seen in high schools, and learn more about themselves and their faith through different types of competitions and workshops. MIST is now proudly hosted in 15 regions across the United States and Canada.

MIST Richmond was established in 2012 and hosted its first tournament in April of 2013 with more than 50 competitors. We continue to grow and we continue to welcome everyone to join our MIST family!

I wanted to thank you guys for all your hard work in organizing & running MIST. As a kid, I had very little Islamic influence, didn’t know any of the other Muslim kids and felt fairly disconnected to Islam in general. If it were not for RVA MIST I’m certain that I would’ve stayed the same. I cannot describe how much of an impact this tournament/conference had in rekindling my faith and making me a better Muslim. While I’m sad that I will no longer be able to attend, I hope that you guys keep doing MIST for years to come: You’re an extremely positive influence on kids.
Thank you all for everything you do. May Allah bless you for all the hard & good work.
